Western Wolds Update- August Newsletter

31st August 2021

As people have been made more aware of the problems of loneliness and isolation during lockdown, with Covid-19 restrictions being gradually  lifted, more men have been approaching the Western Wolds shed to join.

Their most recent success is a revenue grant from the East Riding Council Stronger Together initiative, managed by the HeySmile Foundation via the Beecan Funding Platform. The advice, support and ready availability provided  by Gareth Meyrick of the HeySmile Foundation, in making our application, was invaluable. This particular grant will cover the rental, broadband and utility costs until March next year.

They have been very active on a variety of fronts over the past few months. The normal high level of woodworking activities have continued, with more and more members gaining new skills under the expert guidance of their more skilled members. These sorts of activities have now been extended to the new metal-working facility, including welding, turning and bending machinery, financed by the Kavli Goat Farm Trust grant. Several members, who had no previous knowledge of activities such as welding, have been willing to "give it a go", with very pleasing results.
